Savaterre Chardonnay is the estate white of Keppell "Kep" Smith, who founded Savaterre and still owns and makes the wines. The vineyard is in the Beechworth district of north-east Victoria, at Everton Upper, and is planted on what Smith calls the close-planted French model: vines set tightly together so each one carries a small crop of intensely flavoured fruit. Alongside Chardonnay the estate grows Pinot Noir, Syrah and Sagrantino. The 2024 vintageSavaterre rates 2024 an exceptional Chardonnay year. Long warm days were followed by cool nights, so the grapes ripened slowly, and a naturally small crop on each mature vine helped the fruit ripen evenly. Our importer offers this wine on allocation only.In the glassThe winery describes the 2024 as focused and tightly structured, with aroma, flavour and length that are still unfolding. Halliday reviewer Jeni Port, quoted on Savaterre's release page, points to lemon, grapefruit, stone fruit and toasted almond. Expect a Chardonnay of line and restraint rather than richness.Serving and cellaringServe it lightly chilled rather than ice-cold, around 10 to 12°C, in a generous white wine glass. Savaterre expects it to keep developing and gaining complexity over the coming years, so there is no rush: buy a six-pack, open one now with roast chicken or scallops, and follow the rest over time. The screwcap makes storage simple; keep bottles somewhere cool and dark.Single bottle or sixChoose a single bottle or a case of six. The case is six bottles of this same 2024 Savaterre Chardonnay, not a mixed pack. Savaterre's second label, Frère Cadet, is a separate wine; this listing is the estate Chardonnay. Also worth a look: the last Tolpuddle Pinot Noir 2024, the sold-out Tolpuddle Chardonnay 2025 page, and our Chardonnay range.Delivered Australia-wide. Standard delivery is $9.99 in NSW and $15 to the rest of Australia, free on orders of $200 or more with the code FREEDELIVERY, and Express is $20.
