Pack Size: Single Bottle

Tolpuddle Pinot Noir comes from a single vineyard in Tasmania's Coal River Valley, about twenty minutes' drive from Hobart. The site was established in 1988 on a gentle north-east-facing slope, on light silica soils over sandstone, in a cool and fairly dry corner of the state that sees around 500mm of rain a year. Since 2011 it has been owned by Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith, the cousins behind the Adelaide Hills house Shaw + Smith. The name is history, not branding. The vineyard is named after the Tolpuddle Martyrs, English farm labourers transported to Tasmania for forming a union; their leader, George Loveless, served part of his sentence on a property near Richmond that now includes the vines. How the 2024 tastesJames Suckling scored the 2024 Tolpuddle Vineyard Pinot Noir 97 points in July 2025, calling it another exceptional bottling. His note describes deep, perfumed dark fruit with earthy, floral and herbal detail, a silky palate, firm but rounded tannins and a mineral line of acidity. He also judged it fresh, slightly reduced and seductive in its youth.Serving and cellaringTolpuddle recommends serving its Pinot Noir at 16 to 18°C, so take it out of a cold cellar a little early or give a room-temperature bottle fifteen minutes in the fridge. A large Burgundy-style glass helps the perfume. Suckling expects this wine to age for decades; if you open one now, decant it briefly to let the reduction blow off, and keep a second bottle lying down somewhere cool and dark to follow over the years. Our stockFinal stock - no restock: one case of 6 and a few single bottles. Tolpuddle sells by allocation and has moved on to its 2025 release, so once these bottles are gone the 2024 will not return to our shelves. For a white from the same vineyard, see the Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay 2025, or browse more cool-climate reds in our Pinot Noir range.

Questions about this bottle

Who owns Tolpuddle Vineyard?

Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith, the founders of Adelaide Hills winery Shaw + Smith, bought Tolpuddle Vineyard in 2011. The vineyard itself is older: it was planted in 1988 in Tasmania's Coal River Valley, near Richmond, and was already well regarded for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay fruit before the sale.

How long can Tolpuddle Pinot Noir be cellared?

Reviewing the 2024 in July 2025, James Suckling wrote that he expects it to age for decades. For comparison, Tolpuddle itself says its newer 2025 Pinot Noir will repay careful cellaring for up to 12 years. Store bottles on their side, away from light and heat, at a steady cool temperature.

Is the 2024 vintage still available?

Only in small numbers. We hold one case of six and a few single bottles, and there is no restock coming: the winery's allocations have moved to the 2025 vintage. Choose 'Case of 6' to take the full case, or a single bottle while they last. This page stays live after it sells out.
