What is Moscato?

Moscato is a name used for aromatic wines from the Muscat grape family. Many examples are fruity and sweet, with floral or grapey aromas, but sweetness, bubbles and alcohol strength vary. Read the full product name and bottle label rather than assuming every Moscato has the same specification.

Italian and Australian styles

Moscato d’Asti is an Italian DOCG expression associated with Moscato Bianco. Our Viberti Moscato d’Asti is one current example. For an Australian comparison, try 19 Crimes Moscato. Producer ranges may also include pink, sparkling and alcohol-free expressions; these are distinct products, so check the one you choose.

Is Moscato sweet, and how much alcohol does it contain?

Many Moscatos are sweet or semi-sweet. The label and the producer’s description are the best guide to the particular bottle. Alcohol strength also varies; we do not apply a single ABV to the whole category. For an alcohol-free choice, see Brown Brothers Moscato Zero.

Serving and food

Our serving suggestion is to chill the wine and offer modest pours alongside fruit, cheese or a meal that suits your taste. Keep water and alcohol-free alternatives available. If someone prefers a dry white, Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio is a different wine to compare, not a Moscato.

Can I buy Moscato by the case?

Some listings offer bottles, cases of six or cases of twelve. The selected pack controls the displayed price. Check that selection and your basket quantity before paying. Current stock and delivery choices are shown on the product page and at checkout; see our shipping policy for the delivery terms.

Sources and product checks

Moscato: frequently asked questions

Does every Moscato have the same sweetness or bubbles?

Read the individual expression's producer information rather than assuming one specification across the category. Moscato names appear on different styles, including sparkling and rosé examples. If sweetness, bubbles or alcohol strength matters to your purchase, confirm those details on the product page before choosing the bottle or comparing it with another wine.

What dry wine could I offer alongside Moscato?

Santa Margherita describes its Valdadige DOC Pinot Grigio as dry, with a golden-apple character. It is a different grape and wine style, linked here as an alternative rather than as a Moscato. Consider your guests' preferences and the food, then check the individual product page for the format you want.

How should I serve Moscato?

Our general suggestion is a modest chilled pour, adjusted to your preference and any guidance supplied for the particular bottle. Check the label for expression-specific details rather than assuming one serve suits every Moscato. If hosting a meal, choose the quantity you need and include water and alcohol-free options for guests.
